The National Library of Addictions is an intellectual gathering place for health care professionals and community members who are working to overcome the effects of addictions.
The Library serves as an educational institute, research facility, and neutral gathering place for individuals, families, and communities affected by addictions.
Founded in 1993 by Dr. Punyamurtula S. Kishore to support work in addictions treatment, the Library is designed to provide a non-profit structure for addictions professionals to exchange ideas and to further the development of treatment methodologies.
The Library has recently expanded its mission and the services it provides, including adding educational programs on cardio-metabolic diseases. While the Library is primarily focused on the field of addiction, we recognize that addiction is a physical, biological, mental, social, and spiritual disease that encompasses all areas of medicine, the legal system, behavioral health, and other social arenas.
Our mission is to facilitate the collaboration of these disciplines and to educate providers and professionals in these various, separate fields and enable them to work more effectively together to provide the best all around treatment and services to the addicted community. As part of the expansion of the services the Library aims to provide, we intend to educate professionals from these spheres in not only addiction-specific topics, but addiction-related topics as well. |
